T'ai Chi every Thursday, 7-8 pm
T'ai Chi is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for both its defense training and its health benefits. Medical research has found evidence that t'ai chi is helpful for improving balance and for general psychological health.
People For Palmer Park is excited to bring this FREE t'ai chi class back to the Palmer Park community for its second year. T'ai chi instructor Peter Guenther was very generous in teaching our classes last year, pro bono, and has agreed to teach again this year!
Peter Guenther teaches three 6-week sessions starting May 6 and going through September 2. The sessions meet at Palmer Park at 7 Mile and Pontchartrain. Come dressed to move! All levels welcome to join us.
To get the most out of this practice, try to attend the entire six weeks rather than a single class.
Session A: 5/6 - 6/10 (6 weeks)
Session B: 6/17 - 7/22 (6 weeks)
Session C: 7/29 - 9/2 (6 weeks)
You can start at the beginning of any one - you don't have to do the previous six week session(s) to do the next ones.
We hope you will take advantage of this free class with many physical and mental health benefits!

Jazz with Shahida Nurullah, Kamau Kenyatta, Spencer Barefield, Marion Hayden & Djallo Keita Learn
about the roots and variations of jazz at a special concert with former

notable: he is the musical director/producer of Gregory Porter’s latest
Grammy-winning recording; he’s on the jazz faculty at University of
California; and his resume includes Donald Byrd, Earl Klugh, Hubert Laws, the
Supremes, New Kids on the Block, TV and film scores, and much more.

vocalist extraordinaire Shahida Nurullah, who has performed
internationally and recorded with pianist/composer Geri Allen and many
others; Marion Hayden (bass/composer) of Detroit’s cherished
“Straight Ahead” ensemble; Djallo Keita (drums); and A.
Spencer Barefield (guitar).
Hear and learn about jazz, including traditional, modern and
Latin styles, with a smattering of blues and funk. There will be an opportunity
to ask questions and meet the musicians.

Now in its seventh season, Palmer Woods Music in Homes began in December and
concludes in June. Concerts are held in various magnificent and historically
significant homes. The series includes several free afternoon programs for
Detroit-area children. Our goal is to share our valuable assets — Detroit’s
great music and historic neighborhood — with our other valuable assets, our
children! We hope these special, intimate concerts will help to inspire
our young musicians and children to become lifelong music lovers and future supporters
of the arts; and perhaps sitting in our audience will be future Detroit stars,
who will also share their talents with the next generation.
We hope your child(ren) can join us!
Creative Arts Collective and Palmer Woods Association invite children,
teachers and students to join us for a FREE educational
concert in the Palmer Woods neighborhood of Detroit (just north of Seven
Mile Rd. and just west of Woodward Ave). The address will be provided
with your reservations. The concert will be held in a spacious tent in
the yard between two mansions.
